Comforting contrast to a cold world. Small and sweet, but careful; some of this content can burn if consumed too lightly.

We are what we repeatedly eat. Excellent health, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Yes, I just combined an idiom with an Aristotelian quote. Sue me, but please, do so after finals week.

Self-professed foodie that I am, I couldn’t resist filming SF State senior Kara Cunningham as she prepared a colorful and well-balanced salad after a long evening spent at the Annex. Numerous nutrition studies have proven the correlation between healthy eating and mental sharpness, and with Kara’s array of fruit, cheese, and nuts on her leafy green salad, she seems on her way towards a successful finals week.

Bibliophile that I am, I was curious about literacy rates in other regions of the world, and whether or not other folks have received the same opportunities to efficiently learn how to read as I have. Overwhelmed by the information I found on the CIA’s website, I forced myself to narrow down my focus. So, I chose to look specifically at countries in South and Central America and the Caribbean.
Also, women and gender studies minor that I am, I wanted to analyze how these literacy rates differ between men and women. As I predicted, out of the 13 countries whose information I gathered, a majority of them have more literate males than females. However, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico posted higher numbers of literate females than males. But the prize goes to Cuba, whose numbers of literate citizens are not only high, but equal.

Bear with me, filmmaking aficionados. This is my first creation, and I hope you find it remotely as enjoyable as I do. I meandered around the Safeway on Taraval in the Sunset asking random passerby perhaps the most popular question posed between the hours of 4 and 9 p.m.

What’s for dinner?

See what they had to say.

Hilarious.
